Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer discounts?

Yes. Plainsight offers volume discounts as you scale replicas, as well as savings for multi-year commitments. This ensures pricing stays aligned with your growth while rewarding organizations that standardize on OpenFilter.

We also provide an academic licensing option for research and educational institutions, please contact our sales team for details.

What is a Filter?

A Filter is a universal abstraction that represents a unit of vision workload. It can encapsulate a machine learning model, traditional computer vision logic, utility functions, or even testing and evaluation tools. Each Filter is self-contained, with its own lifecycle and dependencies, which makes them easy to mix, match, reuse, and chain together.

Do you charge for more users?

No. Pricing is based on Filters and replicas, not headcount.

We're a small company with limited resources. Can we afford Plainsight?

Absolutely. We designed OpenFilter to be startup-friendly, with entry-level tiers like Pro that start at just a few dollars per month. All plans use straightforward, predictable pricing, no confusing credit systems or hidden costs. As your needs grow, you can scale into Enterprise or Cloud without surprises.

What is a replica?

A replica is a single running copy of your trained filter. Each environment where you deploy the Filtercloud, server, laptop, or edge devicecounts as one replica.

How do we get access to OpenFilter?

You can get started right away at openfilter.io, an open source project maintained by Plainsight. If you decide you need commercial support in the future, feel free to subscribe to the appropriate tier for your needs at that point in time.

The best way to donate to OpenFilter is to purchase a single Pro license.

If I want the VizOps Platform, what tier of OpenFilter do I need?

The VizOps Platform requires any OpenFilter Plus tier to manage replicas within the platform. VizOps integrates directly with OpenFilter to deploy, manage and retrain Filters.

What is a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)?

An FDE is a dedicated engineer from Plainsight who works closely with your team. They can help with implementation, application development, training, and custom filter builds. All Filters created through FDE engagements belong to you.

What's the difference between commercial and community filters?

Community filters are open source filters available free of charge under the Apache 2.0 license. Commercial filters are specialized filters provided to Plainsight’s premium clients.
