SEATTLE — September 30, 2025 — Plainsight, the leader in operationalizing computer vision through its pioneering modern computer vision infrastructure, today announced Jonathan Simkins as its President and CFO. In this role, Simkins will help scale Plainsight’s business operations and advance its mission to provide highly-scaleable, enterprise-ready infrastructure software for computer vision.

Simkins brings deep expertise across machine learning, infrastructure software, open source, cybersecurity and investment banking. He was most recently the founder and CEO of Kosai, an innovator in open-source supply chain security acquired by Root.io in August 2025. Prior to Kosai, he held mostly CFO positions at Canonical, Appgate, CyberGRX and a number of other technology companies. Throughout his career, Simkins has built multiple high-performing organizations and sparked teams into periods of rapid growth. His leadership philosophy emphasizes empowering teams to take calculated risks, develop quickly, and operate with accountability.

“We’re excited to have Jonathan join Plainsight,” said Kit Merker, CEO of Plainsight. “He has a unique ability to build strong teams and guide organizations through transformation and scale. Jonathan’s perspective will be instrumental as we expand our VizOps mission and deliver even greater value to customers deploying computer vision at enterprise scale.”

Advancing Secure and Scalable Vision AI

Plainsight fills a gap in the AI market: a common, standardized infrastructure layer that enables scalable, enterprise-grade computer vision. The $30 billion computer vision market presents a major opportunity to deliver a sound foundation for repeatable deployment at hyperscaler volumes.

Plainsight’s solutions are already driving transformation across logistics, manufacturing, and QSRs, industries where operational efficiency and real-world vision AI can have outsized impact.

“Computer vision has been around for years, but recent AI advancements are making it far more scalable and enterprise-ready,” said Simkins. “Plainsight is building the platform that takes computer vision beyond pilots, giving customers a reliable way to operationalize AI at scale.  As a nice bonus, customer operating costs also come down thanks to significantly leaner compute requirements when running OpenFilter.”
