My path into tech has been unconventional, shaped by curiosity and a willingness to learn as I go. I didn’t set out to work in technology—it started by accident when I enrolled in a college class I thought would teach basic computer skills. Instead, I found myself in an introductory programming course, and something just clicked. That spark led me to pursue a computer science degree, balancing odd jobs and teaching assistant roles to make it work.

The Early Days in Tech

Before focusing on software, I worked in electrical engineering, even using a proton accelerator to help fund my education. I began my tech career as an intern at Microsoft, which spring boarded me into a 14-year tenure, contributing to projects like test tools for the tablet PC team, user-focused programs, and earning a patent for data optimization. Later, I tackled complex systems, from optimizing the .NET framework footprint to helping open-source the Roslyn Compiler. After Microsoft, I joined Google to explore storage technology but found myself drawn back to the direct impact of smaller, more agile environments.

The Intersection of Creativity and Technology in My Career

Now, at Plainsight, I’ve found a space where I can apply everything I’ve learned to help bridge the gap between technology and the people using it. Whether it’s mentoring teams, designing better systems, or solving practical problems, I’ve discovered that the thread connecting everything I do is optimization—finding ways to make things simpler, more efficient, and more impactful. It’s a challenge I genuinely enjoy and one that continues to drive me forward.

While my technical expertise might define my career, my personal interests as an artist and outdoors enthusiast deeply influence my perspectives in computer vision. I’m constantly amazed at the parallels between art and designing algorithms, explaining how studying and replicating the real world is fundamental to both disciplines. For me, art isn’t just about creativity—it’s a detailed study of what exists.
